Theresa Murray, M.D., M.P.H.

Prior to joining Commonwealth Neonatology in October 2008, Dr. Theresa Murray worked as an Assistant Professor of Neonatal Medicine at VCU Health Center, was the director of the VCUNICU CHiLD (Children’s Health, Learning and Development) program, and was a member of the VCU Pediatric Palliative Care and Pain Management Team. Before focusing on newborn intensive care, she worked as a pediatrician at the Washington Hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Murray has received various honors and awards including the Outstanding Teacher Award at the Washington Hospital Family Practice Residency Program. Most recently, she was invited to speak at the Bon Secours Health System Ethics Grand Rounds on “Quality of Life and Critically Ill Newborns.” Her care of newborns has been supported by grants from organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities and the National Institute of Child Health and Development Neonatal Research Network. Dr. Murray was invited this Spring to present her work on preterm infants’ response to vaccinations at the annual Pediatric Academic Societies 2009 meeting.

She received her B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Virginia, completed her pediatric training at the University of Iowa and earned her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Rochester in New York while completing her neonatology training.
